We’ve just received a shipment from England—a nice collection of metalware including some nice brass and copper trays. Over the next few days, I’ll show you select pieces from the new collection.
Shown above, an English brass tray—about the size of a pie plate—with a hand-hammered Arts & Crafts stylized botanical motif. Very often the Arts & Crafts would “lift” inspiration from the culture’s indigenous or historical past. In this case, The Gothic seems to have been the metalsmith’s aesthetic reference. Perfect for holding a set of cordials or (maybe) four wine glasses or atop a dressing table holding bottles of perfume and lotion.
