This little Italian metal case—decorated with deep blue enamel and parcel gilt—was made in the early Twentieth Century. Originally, it was a fancy container to hold a small supply of cigarettes (perhaps 6-8 of them). Today, such a handsome case could be used as a pill box, to contain stamps or other small desk items, or to hold a supply of small calling cards (though standard-sized business cards will not fit). It would be a wonderful presentation box for an engagement ring and a memorable way to present a house key at a real estate closing.
