A set of 14 Japanese Modernist handcrafted woodblock print greeting cards, made in the years after World War Two. Made in Kyoto, this set was possibly brought home by a US serviceman serving in Japan. The publisher, Kyoto Hanga-In, coordinated the various artists and tradesmen who hand-made each card: the designer-artist, the xylographer (wood block carver), the printers, the "assemblers" and the packaging maker. Each small print (3.5" x 5.5") is "tipped-in"—that is, attached loosely at the top of the print. Another blank piece of paper (for writing one's greeting) is tipped-in to the card's interior. 14 envelopes are included.
