"Raffaelesco," the protective deity of wind, sailors and merchant seamen, blows gently from the hand-painted walls of this Italian ceramic umbrella stand from Deruta, Italy. This pattern of "grotesques" and "arabesques" is attributed to the 16th Century Renaissance artist, Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino (1483-1520). The glazed ceramic vessel was made in the late Mid-Twentieth-Century—though this style of handwork is centuries old. (19.75" x 10.5") ap12909g.
