World Elephant Day

Pair of Cast Iron Trumpeting Elephant Bookends (LEO Design)

Today is World Elephant Day, dedicated to promoting knowledge of elephants and educating the public about the plight of these majestic, endangered creatures.  The annual event strives to reduce poaching, eliminate the trade of elephant ivory, and promote better care and management of Asian and African elephants—in captivity and in the wild.  Wild elephant populations are at an all-time low, due to habitat encroachment (by humans) and the brutal killing of the dignified beasts—by big game hunters and those who seek to saw-off their tusks. In captivity, where the animals are used as beasts of burden or as circus performers, elephants are often maltreated and denied an environment or lifestyle resembling what is natural for these intelligent, highly-sentient beings.

The cast iron elephant bookends, pictured above, has never suffered any poor treatment and will be perfectly at home on your desk, shelf or mantelpiece. Please click on the photo above to learn more about them.
