Josef Emons & Söhne Jug-form Vessel with Cobalt and Pesto-like Glazing (LEO Design)

I've tended my first-ever garden this summer—with flowers, ferns, tomatoes and basil galore.  And what does one do with too much basil?  Make pesto, of course!  So, when I found this piece, I was thematically inclined to add it to the LEO Design collection.  It was made by Josef Emons & Söhne in Rheinbach, Germany in the 1960's.  A dollop of pesto-like glazing drips languorously over a cobalt blue undercolor.  It's a strange, unexpected and wonderful combination of color—coupled with an unpretentious, age-old ceramics form.  Learn more about this piece by clicking on the photo above.
