We saw this dappled gray and white glaze, shown above, a couple of days ago on a different, hand-thrown piece. Here it is used, to great effect, on a lotus-form vase by Pilkington Royal Lancastrian. The piece straddles the Arts & Crafts and the Art Deco Movements—and was made in the Twenties or Thirties. Instead of being hand-thrown, on a potter's wheel, this one was cast in a mould. Note the bas relief "lotus petals" embossed upon the sides of the vase (a silhouette inspired by classic Chinese ceramics). Click on the photo above to learn more about this handsome piece.
