First the Snowfall - III

Scheurich West German Modernist Vase with Curdled White Glazing (LEO Design)

Though the vase, shown above, features a very simple and classic form (sometimes called an "oil jar"), its glazing offers a sophisticated and unexpected twist: a delicate curdling upon the high shoulder of the vase.  It is a look reminiscent of snow atop an icy surface—perhaps snow atop lake-top ice?  Fallen, melted, refrozen and crackling?  It is the smallest embellishment which adds just the right touch to an otherwise simple form and color.  It was made by Scheurich, in West Germany, in the Seventies or Eighties.  Click on the photo above to learn more about this quietly commanding piece.
