Handsome Jewelry

David Andersen Norwegian Art Deco Enameled Sterling Vermeil Bracelet (LEO Design)

For decades, I've been acquiring cufflinks for LEO Design—a big part of our collection of Handsome Gifts.  But, one cannot hunt for men's jewelry without stumbling over (rather, wading through) lots of jewelry for women.  In truth, 99% of jewelry I encounter was made for women.  Therefore, as I unearth handsome cufflinks, I will see a lot of women's jewelry the process—and occasionally find an intriguing woman's piece which I cannot pass-up.

True, the women's jewelry I acquire is usually more on the "Handsome Spectrum" rather than "The Frivolous."  And the Norwegian Art Deco bracelet (circa 1920's-1930's), shown above, fits this description perfectly.  It was made by David Andersen in Oslo (or, more accurately, by the workshop he founded in 1876, which was later managed by his son).  Sterling silver links were engraved with machine-turning (called guilloché), electroplated with a layer of gold vermeil, then enameled—in this case with emerald green and midnight black.  It is a handsome piece.  But, beware, it was made for a rather delicate wrist; the circumference of the bracelet is 6.75" when snapped closed.  Measure well before purchasing.  Please click on the image above to learn more about this very handsome piece.
