Henrik Ibsen is considered by some the greatest playwright since Shakespeare.  He is called “The Father of (Theatrical) Modernism” by others.  His great plays include “Hedda Gabbler,” “Peer Gynt,” “A Doll’s House,” and “An Enemy of the People.”  He was born and died in his home country of Norway (1828-1906), and was captured in the print above by Sir William Nicholson, R.A. in 1902. Ibsen’s birthday is 20 March.
