Size Isn’t Everything

Victorian English Small Brass Candlesticks (LEO Design)

In the past, I’ve typically associated nice candlesticks with big candlesticks—or at least heavysubstantial candlesticks which make a strong statement on a beautifully-laid tabletop. This recently-acquired pair, however, is actually rather smallish, just under seven inches tall. And yet, despite this modest stature, they still have something to contribute in terms of presence, proportion and style.  Their uncommon size and undeniable sophistication combine to produce a choice pair of  candlesticks from late-Victorian England, c. 1860’s – 1880’s.  And because of this small size, they are extra useful in tight or confined spots—or as crisp punctuation when displayed along-side more conventionally-sized (or large) candlesticks.  To learn more about them, please click on the photo above.  And, while you’re at it, peruse all of our recent acquisitions from England and Continental Europe.
