Handsome Jewels - part II

Irish Connemara Marble Brooch in Sterling Setting Hallmarked Dublin, 1966 (LEO Design)

Connemara is a village in beautiful, windswept Western Ireland.  Oscar Wilde called Connemara "a savage beauty." Under the scrub brush, Connemara Marble is quarried.  It was formed undersea some 600 million years ago and is amongst the rarest of marbles, due to its limited supply.  Creamy swirls of the green and white stone have decorated the the mantlepieces of the wealthiest Irish aristocracy as well as the floor of Galway Cathedral and the walls of the Senate Chamber in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.   The pin above, hallmarked Dublin, 1966, is set in sterling silver and will take one back to the rugged coast.  To learn more about this pin, please click on the photo above.
