Scheurich West German Modernist Vase with Dappled "Double Orange" Glazing (LEO Design)

For the next several days, we'll be sharing a few of our favorite pieces of sunny, orange pottery.  Nothing chases away the Winter Blues quite as well as a sideboard full or radiating orange ceramics!

Matte glazes have always been my favorite, especially those which are organic, complex and highly-textured.  This two-tone glaze—bright orange over vermillion—provides a random and dynamic finish to an otherwise streamlined (and unemotional) form.  The color looks good enough to eat!  It was made by Scheurich in West Germany in the 1960's or 1970's.  Click on the photo above to learn more about this piece.

More orange-glazed vintage pottery tomorrow and in the days to come.
