The Feast of the Annunciation—the most important of Marian celebrations—is celebrated each 25 March (unless that day falls on a Sunday or during the Easter Holy Week (in which case the feast is then moved to another date). It has been celebrated since the fourth or fifth century even when, in later years, the Church mandated that no feasts may be celebrated during Lent—except for Sunday Mass and The Solemnity of the Annunciation.
