Over the years, I’ve had many variations on this theme—rings or “links” of metal forming a a round, square or rectangular photo frame. But, 99% of the time, the rings are brass—not copper like the frame above. To my eye, the frames have a vaguely equestrian sensibility. Perhaps the chain reminds me of a snaffle bit or the curb strap on a horse’s bridle. Made in England sometime between 1880 and 1920, they will bring handsome period style to any photo (of a horse or anyone else)—whether it’s a selfie taken yesterday or a family keepsake of yesteryear.
