Let's end our Back-to-School journey with this winsome pair of sleepy scholar-monks. Reading, reading, reading—all night long—can be a slumberous affair (as we can see with the berobed Medieval friars, shown above).
This pair of heavy cast iron "Science & Study" bookends were made by Bradley & Hubbard (Meriden, CT) in the Twenties. The figures are dressed in a golden bronze patina while the textured body of the bookends are finished in a classic bronzy-brown. These handsome bookends—which would look great wherever knowledge is cherished—remind us that wisdom is acquired only with effort and perseverance (while they simultaneously hold-up our treasured tomes in style).
