We are sharing a selection of back-to-school items this week—handsome and useful items which might suit the well-appointed dorm room. In truth, these Handsome Gifts may be more appropriate as graduation gifts than as "dorm-warming" offerings. And many a post-graduate may find these selections perfect for their own (grown-up) office, library or den.
Shown above, a cast iron letter holder, apparently an "advertising piece" for the "Diamond-K" (or "K-Diamond"?) brand. Though we have not identified the specific business which made-up these letter holders, we are pretty sure that they would have been left-behind by a sales rep during a visit to a purchasing agent. The buyer would have used the piece on his or her desk to hold notes, receipts, business cards or other slips of paper. The curved "feet" at the bottom could hold a pencil or pen. And a glance at the branding would keep the company fresh in the purchasing agent's mind.
Today, one could use the holder in much the same way. Perhaps it could hold "to do" cards. Or concert tickets. Or even a collection of favorite photographs. Click on the photo above to learn more about it.
