“Marselis” is one of Nils Thorsson’s most famous designs for Aluminia, parent company of the Royal Copenhagen workshops. Designed in the 1950’s, the collection was glazed in several colorways including the deep Mediterranean blue, shown above. The line is distinguished by repetitive, graphic patterning—lines, tear drops, circles, petals—with no additional embellishment. They enjoy a thoroughly modern aesthetic without the sterility or self-conscious seriousness of some Modernist design.
