A New Shipment from Europe – part V

Fratelli Fanciulacci Italian Strawberry Pot with Red Glazing (LEO Design)

This week we’re sharing some of our just-acquired European art pottery, now in-store at LEO Design.  The examples above are Italian Modernist ceramics made in Florence by Fratelli Fanciulacci (c. 1960’s).  The firm was founded in 1862 and was considered one of the better post-war art potteries in Europe.  Fratelli Fanciulacci was devastated by the catastrophic flooding of the Arno in 1966—losing all its stock, clay, moulds, kilns and paperwork. They closed for a year during which time they lost their employees who were forced to take work at competing workshops.  Although the company did reopen—and limped along for 20 years—it never fully recovered from the devastation and closed in 1988.

Please come into the shop to see these—and the rest of our recent shipment—or call us for further information.
