Let’s end our showcase of recently-acquired European art pottery with this handsome piece by Bay, West Germany. For me it evokes a perfected underwater scene—perhaps like a stylized background found in an animated Disney film. Scrolling latticework reminds me of a screened wall within a placid, underwater palace; flowering ropes of seaweed sway in the shifting current; and large, round bubbles rise to the surface Turquoise, navy and various green glazes capture the variegated colors in a sun-dappled undersea landscape. It’s a little jewel of a piece and can be seen in-store now—alongside many interesting pieces, newly-acquired at LEO Design.
